Which Herbicide Delivery System is Right for You?

Determine which type of herbicide best fits your landscaping need

When you want to kill unwanted vegetation occupying your landscape, it’s important to choose the right product form and application type to get the job done. From spray bottles to granules to concentrates, there are a lot of choices, and understanding the array of available delivery systems is key to unleashing weed-killing power in a way that helps you meet your greenery goals. Before using any Spectracide® product, read the entire label and follow all directions and precautions.

Ready-To-Use

Ready-To-Use

These handheld bottles are ready to use without attaching to a hose or mixing the product with water before use. They’re ideal to use when you only need to spot treat pesky weeds. When you’d like a larger ready-to-use container, Spectracide® brand also offers innovative applicators for ease of use.

For even larger sizes, many of our 1-gallon and 1.33-gallon containers are equipped with an AccuShot® sprayer. Simply hold the top handle of the bottle with one hand and the AccuShot® continuous power sprayer in the other. With an extendable wand for precision and accuracy, just aim at the target area and press the trigger to spray.

PRO TIP

When choosing the right herbicide for your lawn needs, it’s also important to consider whether you need a selective herbicide (weed killer) or non-selective herbicide (weed and grass killer). Selective herbicides kill specific weeds and grasses as listed on their product labels, making them ideal for killing weeds in lawns or landscaped areas as they won’t damage your lawn or desired vegetation.

Non-selective herbicides kill both weeds and grasses, so they’re an ideal choice for areas where no plant growth is desired, such as in cracks around patios and driveways. For a more in-depth explanation on the difference between selective and non-selective herbicides, read How to Manage Weeds in Your Yard Year-Round.

READY-TO-SPRAY CONCENTRATES

Ready To Spray
Good for larger areas, ready-to-spray products are concentrated, but with the convenience of our Quick Flip™ sprayer, you don’t have to do any mixing. Simply connect a garden hose to the sprayer nozzle on the container, turn the faucet water on and you’re ready to begin spraying. Point the nozzle toward the treatment area, pull the switch backwards and the water will automatically mix with the product.

DILUTABLE CONCENTRATES

Dilutable
Dilutable concentrates are a valuable option that allow you to use your own sprayer and to measure and mix based on your precise application needs, especially when treating larger areas. When mixing the concentrate with water, it’s important to use the appropriate amount of product for the treatment area. Follow the directions on the label when completing your measurement calculations, as many factors influence the amount of concentrated product to use.

FOAMING SPRAY

Herbicides are also available in foaming aerosol formulas. You can use these handheld aerosol cans for spot treatment and smaller areas where you want to keep your landscape in line.

PRO TIP

The Spectracide® Weed & Grass Foaming Edger is helpful for edging around lawns; in driveways, walkways, curbs; along fences and foundations, near trees and shrubs; and in flower beds, mulch beds and other similar areas of your yard.

GRANULES

GRANULES

Lastly, you can also choose to apply herbicide in the form of granules rather than a spray. With this form of herbicide, you’ll need to use a drop or rotary spreader designed to apply granular products. For best results, apply the product evenly and uniformly, avoiding streaking, skips or overlaps. Refer to the label for the appropriate amount of product to apply within a certain area of the treatment site and for the suggested spreader settings to achieve desired coverage.
