How to Identify Weeds and Plant Diseases

Figure out what type of weed or plant disease is affecting your greenery—and how to get rid of it

When you spot something growing in your yard that doesn’t belong there, you want to get rid of it fast. Whether you’ve got weeds taking over your lawn or diseases plaguing your plants, there's still hope for your landscape—but, before you’re ready to strike, you have to know your enemy

Click below to read through our identification guides. Use them as your secret weapons for controlling weeds, grasses, fungi or diseases affecting your landscape. For all products, read the label for a complete list of weeds, grasses and exclusions.

PRO TIP

Selective herbicides (weed killers) can be used on your lawn since they’re fit for targeting specific weeds and not your grass. On the other hand, non-selective herbicides (weed and grass killers) will kill any vegetation they touch. So, don’t use non-selective herbicides on your lawn unless you want to kill both weeds and grasses. Learn more about different types of herbicides in How to Manage Weeds in Your Yard Year-Round.
