Spectracide® Brand Launches Urban Makeover Campaign, Unveils First Completed Makeover with Miami-Dade Park & Recreation

St. Louis, MO - Apr 4, 2011

Miami-Dade Park & Recreation proudly announces the unveiling of the revitalized South Dade Trail Mini Park, thanks to the help of Spectracide Brand, a leader in outdoor insect and weed control products.

Representatives from Miami-Dade Park & Recreation and Spectracide brand gathered last Thursday at Miami-Dade County’s South Dade Trail Mini Park for the completion of the park’s Makeover project, the first stop on the Spectracide Urban Makeover campaign. In an effort to revitalize the park, Spectracide brand donated nearly $3,000 worth of product to Miami-Dade County. A team of Park & Recreation and Spectracide employees specializing in landscape and insect/weed control treated the South Dade Trail Mini Park with various products to remove unwanted weeds and bugs. Following the treatment, volunteers for the Miami-Dade Park & Recreation department finalized the beautification process by planting trees and shrubs in the park.

“Park & Recreation Departments across the country are feeling the strain of smaller budgets, and we’re no exception,” said Jack Kardys, Director of Miami-Dade Park & Recreation. “We want to thank Spectracide for their donation and making this project a huge success. Thanks to their assistance, the community will be able to enjoy this beautifully renovated park.”

The Spectracide Urban Makeover Campaign in Miami was just the first of four total planned makeover projects taking place this spring and summer. As part of the brand’s commitment to its local communities, Spectracide brand has also partnered with the city park and recreation departments to select and treat a park in each community in need of improvements. All Spectracide products used during the makeovers are registered and accepted by the EPA.

“We understand that community parks are facing smaller budgets and we want to help in a way that only Spectracide brand can,” said John Pailthorp, Division Vice President, Marketing, United Industries Corporation, the maker of Spectracide products. “We hope to improve these public spaces and make them places that the community can enjoy.”
